Active participation of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the 1st Accessible Gala “Disability is a Verb”
On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the University of Western Macedonia made a strong presence at the 1st Accessible Gala of empathy & solidarity titled “Disability is a Verb – of Action and Life”. The event was held with great success on Tuesday, December 3, 2025, in Kozani, organized by SMA HELLAS and IONOS NGO. The Department was represented by the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Markos Tsipouras, and Dr. Dimitris Ziouzios, highlighting the academic community’s commitment to supporting actions with a strong social impact. Of particular importance was the contribution of the student research team BioMec and the Laboratory of Biomedical Technology and Digital Health of the Department. The team members supported voluntarily the event, and they conducted on-site research to record social attitudes and perceptions regarding disability. Utilizing digital tools, the students collected data from the participants, demonstrating in practice how technology and engineering can serve as tools for social contribution and inclusion. The overall organization highlighted the critical importance of accessibility and equal opportunities. The University of Western Macedonia and the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering remain steadfast supporters of such initiatives, actively strengthening the connection between the academic community and the needs of society.
