Content:

Overview of networking technologies. Switching principles and techniques. Circuit and Packet
Switching. Routing. Traffic and congestion control. Access networks. X-DSL Technologies, X.25, Frame
Relay, ATM Overview. Telephone Network. Mobile Communication Networks. Synchronous Digital
Hierarchy. Signaling systems. Common Channel Signaling No. 7 (CCS7). Call and Service Control.
Intelligent Networks. Quality of Service (QoS). Telecommunication Traffic Modeling. Network
Management.

Learning Outcomes:

The course objective is the comprehension and learning of the
various networking technologies. In this context, a wide range of
issues are addressed, aiming to cover telecommunication
networks and techniques for network design, development,
management and evaluation.

Validation:

Course assessment is conducted by written exams taking place at
the middle and the end of the semester, including questions (both
open and multiple choice) as well as exercises that cover the
course content (30% and 70%, respectively).
